Our Choices

When God created Adam and Eve and placed them in the Garden of Eden they were perfect, in the very image of God. Adam was called the Son of God. They were told to be caretakers of all God had created. God would come down in the cool of the day to walk and talk with them. Anything they needed to know God was there to give them His answer. What a place to be, Glory to God. God gave them, as He does everyone, the ability to make their own choice.

God told them they could freely eat of all the trees in the Garden but one. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil was forbidden fruit to them. At this point Adam and Eve had no knowledge of evil; they were innocent in every way. The serpent came and tempted them to eat of the forbidden fruit. Eve, and Adam with her, listened and made their choice. They ate of the forbidden fruit. The rest is history. Adam and Eve chose to die. That was what God told them would happen if they ate of the fruit (it was not an apple).

In the new covenant, sealed by the blood of Jesus Christ, we who have repented and received Christ have been made complete. Col 2:10 says: And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.

He has perfected us. Heb 10:14 says: For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. We are made completely new. 2 Cor 5:17 says: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

We, who are in Christ, are back in much the same state that Adam and Eve were before the fall. Praise God. We are now God’s Garden; we are to be caretakers of His property. We are His personal private property.

Rom 12:1-2 says: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Our bodies are not our own, they now belong to God as His temple. We are the caretakers of our own body. We must study His word and get our minds renewed to think as He thinks. This is what the majority of the letters to the churches are about.

As Adam and Eve were, we are faced with choices every day. The question is are we going to make Godly choices according to the Word of God or make fleshly choices according to the desires of our flesh? The first will give life the second death. We, like Adam and Eve, can choose life or death. We now have God in us. If we need to know anything, all we need do is ask. He is our Guide and Teacher. We have been set free so we can make a choice and stick to it. Rom 6:18 says: Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

Now that we have been set free from the authority of sin, are we going to go back to what we were set free of? God forbid. Let’s walk as those who are free from sin and be transformed by renewing our minds to serve God in the beauty of true holiness in Christ Jesus. Do we know who we are because of Jesus Christ? 1 John 4:17 says: Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. Jesus is the vine and we a branch. All our strength and ability flows through Him. Don't let the devil tell you can't; you can do all things through Christ who is your strength.

Father God, help us to walk in all You have created us to be, in Christ Jesus. Give us wisdom to never give place to the evil one. In Jesus name we ask. Amen
