As I was growing up, when my Daddy said don't do something, I never went to my Mother to find what he meant. I knew what he meant, and if I didn't want to eat standing up for a while, I had better do as he said! Plain language is easily understood. The same things applied when he said do something.
Man, as a whole, hasn't changed much from the Garden of Eden till now. Oh, we have more modern, so called conveniences, but the way we listen to God has changed very little. When God’s Word declares it one way and someone else comes along and says it in a way more acceptable to us we will believe that instead of God.
This is exactly what happened in the Garden of Eden. God said, “In the day you eat of that tree you will die.” The serpent said, “God didn't mean you would die, what He meant was.” God meant what he said so Eve and Adam with her died spiritually the day they ate of the forbidden fruit. Now Adam was the Son of God, created perfect by God himself. He had eternal life but disobeyed God and died.
Gen 2:16-17 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Gen 3:4-5 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
Why is it, we can read a letter from a friend and believe every word of it. We read something in the newspaper and believe it. We read the Bible; the Word of the Living God who created us and if it doesn't say what we want to hear we will look for a hidden meaning. Some just ignore it because it doesn't fit their doctrine. That must be an insult to God Almighty. Do we think He cannot speak plain enough for us to understand?
When He says “don't or do” there is a very good reason for it and it’s for our benefit. He came that we might have life and that more abundantly but He can not help us if we are disobedient. If His Word says certain deeds will bring death, then they most certainly will. His Word says certain deeds will not inherit the kingdom of God. He meant what He said.
When a singer misses a note or forgets the words of a song no souls are hurt because of it. When a Preacher or Teacher of the Word does not say it like The Word of God says souls can miss heaven and spend eternity in hell. When Jesus spoke truth to some they turned and walked away from Him. He didn't change the Word to win them back or make them happy. Only the truth will deliver and make whole. Only the truth brings eternal life.
When any Minister or Teacher changes the Word of God they are on very dangerous ground. We will all, one day, stand before God Almighty at the first judgment [of awards] or the second [white throne]. How are we going to explain why we changed plain scripture to fit our doctrine? What are we feeding the Children of God? Is it Bible doctrine or church doctrine? Is it God breathed or man made?
