How to overcome

Rev 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

As those who love the Lord, we are constantly facing situations, circumstances, trials and temptations. In each of these we must decide what we will do. There is a way to be defeated and a way to overcome and be victorious. What we do and/or say will determine the outcome. Please notice we overcome by the blood of the Lamb, Jesus, and by the word of our testimony. Both are very important.

First let's look at the “Blood of the Lamb”. Of course His Blood cleanses us of all sin. But how does that work? When we repent and receive the Lord into our life He cleanses us of all sins that are past. Then there is an ongoing cleansing that can happen.

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Please notice something is required on our part. The Lord won't save us without our cooperation. We must walk in the light as He is in the light. What is walking in the light? In the Psalm it says “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path.” So walking in the light is walking in the truth of the Word of God. Are we walking in all the truth we know and seeking each day to know more truth? To do this requires Bible study, prayer and fellowship with our Lord. When we see that something we are doing is not in line with God’s word we should repent and turn from that. As we do His blood will keep us cleansed of all sin.

Now the other part of overcoming is our testimony. What we say is very important. Now we see there is something, for us, to do and say! Each time satan came to Jesus and tempted Him, Jesus gave him an answer and it was “It is written”. So, with that as an example, we must know what is written. Again bible study, prayer and fellowship.

What should our testimony be? What God’s word says about us! Two can't walk together if they don't agree. Our answer to satan should be “It is written.”

Here is an example. In Jesus I am, more than a conqueror and made the righteousness of God. As He is so am I in this present world, no weapon formed against me shall prosper. I'm seated with Jesus in heavenly places. If God be for me who shall be against me? In Jesus I'm complete, healed, delivered, sanctified, and made holy. Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. Jesus is doing a work in me and will complete it. I know the truth and the truth has set me free. I'm one of the sons of God, a temple of the Holy Ghost. So get away from me satan; I am God’s own private property.

This is not thinking too highly of ourselves; it rather believes Jesus has done what The Word says.

Satan lies to us; he is a creature of darkness so when we shine the light of God’s word on him, he must flee! Submit yourselves to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.

We overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. There is one more thing in this verse we must see. They loved not their own lives unto death. Do we love our life or the life of Jesus in us?
