In 1626 the Dutch West India company purchased the island from the Indians and named it New Amsterdam included in their colony of New Netherland. Welcome to this Web site!

My maternal grandfather, Dr. Rufus Webster Terhune, 1866 - 1946, a noted family historian and genealogist, authored the widely used Terhune Genealogy (Part I) chart earlier this century. In the decades following the creation of his chart Dr. Terhune continued to research and document Terhune history and genealogy until his death in 1946. From his many unpublished manuscripts, and other sources, I have written A Terhune Family History and Genealogy which I hope will inform and interest Terhunes, their relatives, and all others concerned with Dutch colonial and Midwestern history and genealogy. For further information about this book, just follow the links provided below.

I look forward to hearing from you!
