SleepyCat Quilting uses the KenQuilt® Royal® quilting machine. This is one of the very best longarm quilting machines on the market. The company is continually designing and improving their systems. These machines are operator controlled, which allows the operator to create and individualize the designs that are made with this machine. With KenQuilt®, you can follow any pattern with ease, or you can even design your own! KenQuilt® has a channel quilting device that allows you to sew straight lines too, either horizontally, diagonally, or longitudinally. They also have a Circle Maker which sews perfect circles of varying diameter. The entire spread top to be quilted is rolled lengthwise onto a middle roller. The Backing (bottom of the quilt) is pinned to the back roller - lengthwise. The Batting to be used, either cotton or polyfill, is then laid, unpinned, between the middle and back roller. Then you take up all 3 pieces, Top, Batting and Backing, onto a front take-up roller.
The machine is mounted in a special carriage that allows it to smoothly move a full 360º degrees from side to side and front to back. This enables the operator to sew intricate quilting patterns including loops, circles, outlining, freehand and stimpling. The operator simply starts with leading edge of the spread. Then, while moving the machine from right to left, the operator will follow a quilting stitch pattern template, with the aid of an adjustible laser light which is mounted on the machine carriage. After two rows of quilting are performed, the spread is then rolled forward. This procedure is repeated until the entire spread is beautifully quilted with look of handcrafted artistry. Outlining or Freehand Quilting may be done at any point of the quilting process simply by moving the machine around your blocks or your template you may have on your quilt.
The KenQuilt® machines are quality built and safe to use! The speed of the machine is controlled by a variable rheostat located on the machine head and maintains constant speed to suit the operator. A safety, spring loaded, "on-off" control switch is incorporated with operating handles and stops the machine when released. The sewing head, sewing table and carriage track are made of industrial quality products. KenQuilt® Tracking System is unique because they makes their own tracks & wheels in-house for better quality and better control of your stitch patterns.
New to the KenQuilt® long- and mid-arm machines is the Intellistitch Turbo CL® stitch regulator which controls the stitches per inch no matter how fast or slow the operator moves the machine during quilting. This innovation provides a more consistant and professional look to the finished quilt. Contact KenQuilt for more information on retrofitting your current longarm with this upgrade.
Visit the KenQuilt website and view the Royal long-arm, the new Princess mid-arm, and both the 622 and 633 short-arm machines!
With these professional quilting machines, you have more time to devote to making your quilt tops and avoid the difficulty in trying to quilt with your sewing machine which often produces a less-than-satisfactory quilt and a trip to the shop to reset the sewing machine timing. Or start your own business quilting for others.
