Warning Description: Flash Flood Watch
Warning Date: 7:44 PM EDT on May 27, 2012
WarningSum:...Flash Flood Watch Now In Effect Through Tuesday Afternoon...
Warning Message:The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for
* a portion of southeast Georgia...including the following
areas...coastal Bryan...coastal Chatham...coastal Liberty...
coastal McIntosh...Evans...inland Bryan...inland Chatham...
inland Liberty...inland McIntosh...long and Tattnall.
* Through Tuesday afternoon
* subtropical storm Beryl will approach the northeast Florida
coast early tonight and move onshore by midnight. Beryl is then
expected to meander across southern Georgia and northern Florida
through Monday before pushing offshore of the South Carolina
coast Tuesday.
* This system has the potential to produce heavy rainfall with
general rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches across much of
southeast Georgia. At this time the highest rain amounts are
expected to occur near the Altamaha river. Much of this will
likely fall tonight into Monday with the risk for heavy rain
persisting into Tuesday morning. Elevated tides at the coast
may enhance the risk for flash flooding east of Interstate 95.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flash Flood Watch means there is a potential for flash flooding
based on current forecasts. Monitor the latest forecasts and be
alert for possible flash flood warnings. Those living in areas
prone to flooding should be prepared to take action if flooding
develops.

...Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect...
...Probability of tropical storm/hurricane conditions...
the chance for hurricane conditions at this time is very small.
Also...the chance for tropical storm conditions at this time is
up to 67 percent. This represents a general steady trend since
the last forecast.
...Winds...
maximum sustained winds of 30 to 40 mph are expected tonight.
Wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph are likely in and near rain bands
mainly near the coast. Some downed trees along with power outages
will be possible tonight.
Residents should move loose items indoors...such as garbage cans
and outdoor furniture...as they will be blown around. Newly
planted or Young trees and shrubs may be uprooted if not secured
properly.
...Storm surge and storm tide...
up to 1 to 2 feet of water above ground level will be possible
during high tide late tonight. A few coastal roads may have some
water on them at high tide late tonight and early Monday
morning...but major arteries...such as Route 80 between
Wilmington Island and Tybee Island...are unlikely to be entirely
under water based on the current track of Beryl. Also...
significant inundation of structures is not expected at this time.
Please stay tuned to the latest statements from the National
Weather Service concerning the strength of Beryl. If Beryl were
to get a little stronger than expected...maximum storm tides and
inundation values could be a little higher...especially near the
Altamaha river region and McIntosh County.
...Inland flooding...
a Flash Flood Watch is in effect for the entire area. See latest
forecast for latest information. Listen for possible flood
warnings for your location...and be ready to act if flooding
rains occur.
Bands of showers continue to move across the area as Beryl
approaches from the east. Showers are expected to be brief in
duration through this afternoon...generally keeping rainfall
amounts to 1/2 inch or less. However...by tonight...heavier
rainfall amounts are expected as more significant moisture and
rain bands from the storm move across the area. If Beryl stalls
over North Florida south Georgia for part of Monday...additional
heavy rainfall will be possible. Up to 3 to 6 inches of total
rainfall will be possible through Tuesday...especially if Beryl
stalls for a period on Monday. This may result in some minor
flooding of low lying...poorly drained areas.
...Tornadoes...
there will be a threat for isolated tornadoes...mainly in rain
bands tonight during the first part of the night.
...Coastal hazards...
there is a high risk for rip currents through tonight along with
and dangerous surf. Some beach erosion is also expected...especially
during the next major high tide later tonight and early Monday
morning.
