Lost Trukey Trail - May 8 through May 10, 2004

John P.Saylor Trail - May 10 through May 11, 2004

Trail Description

These two trail make a very nice, non-technical backpacking adventure. The ups and downs are managable since they are mostly on old railroad grades and switchbacks. Water is plentiful, at least in the spring but this could lead to buggy in the summer especially on the Saylor trail.

I camped at the Burnt House Picnic area, not sure that is legal but there were no "No Camping" signs. There is potable water, rest rooms, picnic tables, all the comforts of home. I built no fire and of course when I left you could not tell I was there. The second night I found a campsite off a road I guess at about 33 km. The third night was as the lean-to on the middle loop of the Saylor trail.

All in all, both Sophie and I enjoyed the trip. Sophie had a great time slopping in the wet areas. So much so that the groomer had to bath her three times to get all the black leaf uck out of her fur.
