Attack of the Killer Hair

March 14, 2006

Boy, am I glad that I got my hair cut a few weeks ago. My hair started falling out a little last Friday and by Monday, it was falling out in handfuls. Today, it is absolutely everywhere and it tickles!! It's on my pillow, on the bathroom floor, stuck to my coat in wads, all over my desk, all over everyone else's desk...Yow. I have an appointment to have it shaved off on Thursday and I can hardly wait. I never dreamt that I would actually want my hair to fall out!

The good news is that I've felt really good since last Monday. I felt kind of lousy for the first week after the chemo treatment, but since then, all of the side effects have been easy to deal with. I've had two additional Herceptin (immuno-therapy) treatments since the chemo treatment and I haven't had any further reactions. Whew.

Todd and I meet with my oncologist on Thursday. Assuming all of my blood work and side effects are within range, my next chemo and Herceptin treatment will be on Friday. So, after Friday, I'll be half way through the chemo and only have 48 Herceptin treatments to go. (Well, at least it's better than 52...)

Here is a picture of me in the fun lavender on white wig that I wore to my first staff meeting without my own hair. Believe or not, my colleagues actually were able to take me seriously for the whole meeting. Wow.
