Let the Camp Grayling Officers Club, its
Cottages or "RV" Park be your springboard into the pristine beauty of
Northern Michigan. A central location provides an easy days drive
to several of Michigan's famous cities, landmarks and sights such
as the Soo Locks and Mackinaw Memorial Bridge. Grayling also
provides easy access to many of the finest golf courses in Northern Michigan.
- The city of
Grayling, located approximately
3 miles from the Camp
Grayling, is a main cross over for travelers heading towards the
Traverse City and Kalkaska communities. Events, such as the Annual
Canoe Race, attract people from distant places.
-
Prudenville (approximately
33 miles) and
Houghton Lake (approximately
26 miles) provide a year round
sporting venue, have some great antique shops and seasonal craft shows.
- The
Turtle Creek Casino, a favorite of
many who stay in the Grayling
area, is an approximate 42 mile
hop down the road.
-
Traverse City, famous for its
fabulous shorelines, dining and Cherry Festival, is just 54
miles from Camp Grayling.
- Alpine like
Gaylord hosts both an excellent
skiing and golfing venue, has a variety of quality restaurants and a
quaint shopping area on its main street. Gaylord is 34
miles from the Officers Club.
- Further to the
Northwest, on the shores of Lake Michigan's Little Traverse Bay, (approximately 70 miles)
is the
City of Petoskey
that boasts a small town atmosphere with world class shopping.
-
Mackinaw City (91 miles)
is another day trip opportunity providing you with 4 historic sites, a
great view of the Mackinaw Bridge and a neat shopping area; most who
visit would not want to miss a stop at the Mackinaw Bridge Museum.
- The
City of Sault Ste. Marie is worth the
trip (147 miles), but you
may want to make it an overnighter. The Soo Locks and
International bridge are favorites in the city, as is the
Kewadin Casino.
- Take the ferry
from either St. Ignace or Mackinaw City to beautiful
Mackinac Island (sorry - you can't drive there). Tour the
historic Fort Mackinac, visit the Grand Hotel or take a horse drawn ride
or bicycle around the island area.
-
Alpena
is 98 miles from
the Officers Club and overlooks Lake Huron's picturesque Thunder Bay.
Historic lighthouses are just a few miles further north, and the
Phelps
Collins Air National Guard Base is on the outskirts of town.
