The legislators below are the GOOD guys. They voted NO
on SB 861, which means they understand we need to treat California
citizens equally and hold people accountable for their OWN actions. They
also understand that pet problems are caused by PEOPLE, and effective
solutions must TARGET irresponsible people rather than discriminate
senselessly.
Vote FOR these people:

SB 861 Passed the
Senate!
Senator Soto (AYE) suggested owners
of certain breeds shouldn't be able to walk their
well-behaved dogs on sidewalks! Unless you want this
kind of insane thinking becoming law, pay attention to
the names below.
THE DOG OWNER'S ENEMY
Politicians to vote OUT of office if you want to
keep your dogs and protect your rights as owners:
|
 |
Senator Jackie Speier (D)
SB 861 was originally a
prescription drug bill that she GUTTED and
amended to turn into a dog bill. (Apparently
prescription drug issues aren't that important,
even though SHE must have thought it important
enough to introduce). She gutted the
existing bill so she could push her dog agenda
through as fast as possible, before the people
of California could have a fair chance to find
out about the bill and offer effective
opposition. Speier's sneaky tactics deprived
Californians of their right to be heard and
represent an affront to Californians and is an
abuse of the legislative process. She also presented FALSE information to
the Senate Local Government committee that heard
the bill (on rebuttal when the opposition had no
opportunity to correct the falsehood) and
inaccurately blamed a Pit Bull for an attack
when, in fact, the dog was reported in every
news story to be a Rottweiler. Give her a ring:

Mayor Gavin Newsom (D)
He's a hypocrite. When it was
an issue HE cared about, he "swore to uphold
California's Constitution, which clearly outlaws
all forms of discrimination." Yet,
he pushed for the bill to override a California
state law prohibiting discrimination.
Mayor Newsom doesn't care if he discriminates
against disabled persons in wheelchairs who need
strong, compact service dogs. He is the worst
kind of politician. He breaks laws to suit his
purpose and changes longstanding laws that
protect citizens to suit his whim. He wants an
easy job. He doesn't want to target the REAL
problem of pet overpopulation and unruly dogs by
devoting money, resources, and common sense
bills. He wants to just target breed after breed
and be done with them all! |
|
 |
Senator Michael Machado
(D)
He voted AYE to SB 861 before the
opposition even finished presenting its side,
then walked out of the room! He doesn't care
about issues, he cares about voting party lines,
even if a bill is inherently flawed. |
|
 |
Senator Nell Soto (D)
If
she has her way, you won't be able to walk your
dog on a public sidewalk, even if it's on leash
and well-behaved! (I kid you not).
watch her deliver her idiotic request, then ponder
the question: WHO elected her? Want to let her
know your thoughts?

 |
Senator Dick Ackerman
(R)
He
voted to take away dog owners' rights and
discriminate against breeds rather than
targeting the real problem: people! |
|
 |
Senator Tom Torlakson (D)
He coauthored the bill to take
away the rights of CA dog owners and allow
owners of some breeds to breed irresponsibly and
indiscriminately while advocating owners of
other breeds be strictly regulated, even to the
point of losing their show or service dogs! |
|
 |
Senator Chritine Kehoe (D)
She promotes herself as a
relentless fighter for civil rights, but she
voted to discriminate against responsible dog
owners. She believes allowing such
discrimination is more important than ensuring
persons with disabilities can keep their service
dogs. She voted for a law that will allow any
County in CA to require show dogs be spayed or
neutered (which could lead to the end of show
dogs of certain breeds within CA).
|
|
 |
Senator Sheila Kuehl (D)
Along
with Kehoe and the others, she voted to take
away the rights of Californians that own show,
service, working, sporting, therapy, or pet
dogs!
|
|
 |
Assemblyman Tim Leslie (R)
When SB 861 went before his committee for a
vote, he said, ""It's time to get rid of
these Pit Bulls. I think we ought to string 'em
all up, send them to some other state."
This year it's Pit Bulls, next year it's Rotties,
and so on. Send him some warm fuzzies. Phone:
