The first sefirot, keter is located at the top of the center or middle axis and crowns the head.
It is connected to the 10th sefirot, malchut. As with many other traditions, this connection in one aspect represents
life - the creation of the universe. It is the uniting of heaven and earth,
the combination of Shiva or pure unmanifested consciousness and Shakti or inactive consciousness. Anodea
Judith, in her book on the Chakra System "Wheels of Life, describes the paths taken in this connection
as those of liberation and manifestation. The path of keter, as described in the Kabbalah, is one of manifestation.
The word keter has three meanings: to surround, crown, and to wait. The Kabbalah identifies three heads of keter:
Reisha d'Arich, the elongated head; Reisha d'Ayin, the head of nothingness; and Reisha d'lo Ityada,
the unknowable head.
The elongated head is the power of will and corresponds to the meaning of "to surround". We are surrounded by all
of the conscious powers of the soul. Here is omnipotence. All of the other nine sefirot surround us
as we move to malchut to manifest.
The head of nothingness is the area of radiance and corresponds to the meaning of "crown",
the source of the divine spiritual power where we receive and integrate into our consciousness
the pleasure of divine revelation. Here is omnipresence.
The unknowable head is the absolute truth and corresponds to the meaning of "to wait" because we wait
for "perfect faith", for what is hidden from our consciousness and will be revealed in the world to come.
Here is oneness.
