In the second sefirot we have wisdom or sight, instinctual or intuitive insight that often comes as a lighting flash. This is the
power of the conscious intellect within the universe but as opposed to binah (its companion - the third sefirot), which is more intellectual in nature,
from the right hemisphere of the brain, the creative side. In many traditions, this is referred to as the
ability to see.
In the Zohar, chochmah is read koach mah or cheich mah, meaning "the power of selflessness"
or "the palate of selflessness." As represented in the Zohar, koach mah is more than just selflessness, it
suggests creative power related to being selfless. Cheich mah suggests the ability to "taste" divinity because
of the power to create or manifest this selflessness. Therefore, through Kabbalistic teachings,
we understand that chokhmah, wisdom or sight, requires creative acts of selflessness and that there is a palatable
spiritual sense of taste preceding sight.
