In the third sefirot we have understanding, the ability to articulate the insight of chokhmah.
Like chokhmah, this is the power of the conscious intellect within the universe but as opposed to chokhmah
(its companion and the second sefirot, which is creative and intuitive), binah is found in the left hemisphere
of the brain, the intellectual side.
Binah contains the power of analysis and inductive and deductive reasoning. It is the power to understand
the insights of chochmah. With this understanding comes the ability determine the truth or falsehood
within an idea or concept. Bein is the root of binah and means "between". Therefore, binah is the
ability to distinguish between ideas.
The Kabbalah describes the union of binah and chochmah as that of the mother and the father and as being continual.
In the Zohar it is said that they are "two companions that never separate".
