Ex-Mormon Christian – Mark D. Champneys

...About This Internet Ministry

I am a lay person, but I am heavily involved in ministry. (I am the Engineering Manager for a local manufacturer, by way of vocation.) I am involved with my local church here in Washington. I teach Bible classes to adults and youth, and I am generally involved in some way with international missions and sometimes with worship music. I have been a board member and evangelist with Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF), and I am a certified lay teacher-trainer with Evangelism Explosion International (EE) in addition to volunteering with Saints Alive Ex-Mormons in Jesus Evangelistic Association as the lay evangelism director and missions trainer as well as editor of their monthly newsletter. (I lead short-term mission trips to Utah each summer.) As I write this I am currently considering God's possible call as a full-time "internet missionary." Would you pray with me in seeking God's will for me in this area?

When I began this web site several years ago I never could have imagined the response, and I never could have imagined the amazing things that God would do through it. Even with the limited time I can spend answering e-mail each week, a significant number of Mormons have made decisions for Christ and have received the forgiveness of sins through this ministry. I once received two e-mails from two different men on the same day, both Mormons, both former elders' quorum presidents, from different parts of the country, telling me that they had made decisions to receive eternal life by faith and were leaving the Mormon Church. The same day!

During the summer of 1998 while witnessing on the streets of Manti, Utah a woman, who identified herself as Brenda, approached me and asked if I was Mark Champneys. After I answered in the affirmative, she proceeded to tell me a remarkable story of how she had been raised in Salt Lake City, a strong Latter-day saint; but then received salvation in Christ by grace through faith after studying material from this web site that her sister had printed off for her. She had become a Christian without me even being aware of what had happened!

A few years ago an LDS sister missionary from Germany who found this web site gave her life to the real Jesus. She ended up spending several months with us and also other families here in the Tacoma area learning about the Bible and growing spiritually in a phenomenal way. (Before she returned for Germany, she left me with her LDS missionary name-tag as something to remember her by.) Now, after her return to Germany I have learned that she has led a Mormon woman to the real Jesus. The fruit multiplies!

This is world missions work in the fullest sense of the word, but it is very different from conventional missions work. I see the need to spend full-time answering e-mail and witnessing to Mormons via cyberspace. There are so many heart-rending e-mails that I simply cannot keep up with. Many Christian e-mails as well from believers who have LDS friends and relatives--needing advice and help on how to reach their loved ones with the gospel of grace. Recent figures indicate that there are over twelve million Mormons world-wide, and over 60,000 LDS missionaries. The need is very great, and the workers are few. I have a wonderful Christian wife and four terrific believing children (and spouses!) who are behind me, but I obviously must support my family, so the decision to go into full-time missions will be a huge decision of faith for me. Here are some things you can do:

Pray:

For Mormon people generally to have their eyes opened that they would become saved. Specifically for those who I am able to reach through the internet, missions trips, and outreach to churches. For me to have boldness, love, and the words that the Lord leads me to speak to them.

For the salvation of your own Mormon friends and loved ones. Also that you would be a witness

For this decision whether or not to go into full-time missions; its effect on my family, finances, etc.

For our local Tacoma chapter of Saints Alive Ex-Mormons in Jesus, and for all outreach ministries to Mormon people.

For Christian pastors and churches all over the world that they would be equipped and prepared to (1) discern spiritual error, and (2) reach out to those lost in cults like Mormonism.

Be a "sending" church. Talk to your pastor and/or mission committee about myself or another speaker visiting your church, and distributing the "Glossary" tract and other resources to your members. Suggest that your church support me as a missionary representing your church along with other missionaries that your church sends out. Earmarked support can be sent in care of Saints Alive at the above address.
