"BACK BRAKE WARNING!!!"

_________________________________________

The following excerpt was taken from the blog on www.dealsgap.com which Ben, the owner, updates daily. I hope it will be of some value to my fellow riders:

Back Brake: Folks, I dont care who taught you to use your back brake, but I'm telling you that it is NOT your primary method of stopping, let alone in an emergency situation. If on a sportbike, most have 2 rotors on the front wheel, and are more than capable of stopping a bike in real short order. If on a cruiser, you might find using both to be the most advantageous, but never use strictly the rear brake, especially in an emergency situation. This year there have been 2 fatalities at Deal's Gap that can be blamed on the rear brake, and lack of experience. I'm not saying this to upset anyone, but it is very important to learn from these situations, and I am merely trying to pass along some info that might help you, or someone you love, in the future. All riders should practice emergency stopping from time to time so you can get used to what your bike will do under such conditions.
