HISTORY by granddaughter Flora Pearce Hadley Augustus Emery Pearce was born May 18, 1810 at Harmouth, New Jersey. He married Caroline Pullen on 19 Feb 1842 in Burlington. They accepted Mormonism and joined one of the last handcart companies coming to Zion. The Pearces lived for some time in Salt Lake City before they were called to St. Charles, Idaho. His son William Pearce, was one of the men chosen to make the first trip into the Bear River Valley. In 1871 Augustus and his family came to Randolph. There were eight children. They were, Lafayette, William, Charles, George Franklin, Agnes, Marietta, Christabel and Georgana. They built their home two blocks east of Main Street. The home is now owned by Robert and MarJean Tate. They took up land, purchases cattle and some sheep. Caroline had a spinning wheel; she carded woold and spun it into yarn. She and the girls knit the yarn into stockings for the family just in the natural color. She had a candle mold and made their candles. They started a store in the front room of their home. Marietta married Randolph H. Stewart; Christabel married George Spencer, and Georgana married Andrew McMinn. They moved to St. Anthony, Idaho. When Randolph H. Stewart moved to Moab, the Pearces sold out and went with them. Some time later they moved back, but had lost everything. They built a home and store on Main Street on the corner where Merril Hoffman's Service is. The old home is still there used for a storehouse. After Augustus died, their son Lafayette came and lived with his aged motehr. Augustus and his wife lived to a ripe old age (Augustus died at age 84 and Caroline died at age 82 in Randolph, Utah)
