| William McNeil was among a group of southern sympathizers, organized by his father, John Hanson, who joined Confederate General Price and battled at Carthage, Wilson's Creek and Lexington during the Civil War. After the Battle of Lexington, William (John Hanson's oldest son) returned home to Missouri to help run the family farm. | ||||||
