Follow-up Meeting on Health and the Environment Conference

May 26, 2005, UMPC Shadyside, West Wing Meeting Room C

May Meeting Minutes

May Meeting Agenda

  • Formalize a scientific and health-affected advisory committee
  • Inventory Pennsylvania environmental health initiatives
  • Form a collaborative network with an E-mail list-serve, expanding use of the current che-penn.org website to promote an environmental health research agenda and public education.

In its public education role, CHE-Penn could:

  • Act as a clearing-house for environmental health issues and advocates
  • Create exchange opportunities among constituent groups
  • Advocate for research.
  • Create a physicians and researchers resource list.
  • Work with doctors to get their research findings out to the public.
  • Support environmental health curriculum development on primary, secondary, tertiary and graduate levels. Work is ongoing with the Center for Healthy Environments and Communities (CHEC) at the Pitt Graduate School of Public Health.
  • Strategize and produce public education on health and environment issues with healthaffected or environmental groups. This would continue the work already initiated with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Pittsburgh affiliate, the Healthy Children Project and the Campaign for Healthy Air.

To get to West Wing Meeting Room C, park in the UPMC Cancer Pavillion garage and take the elevator up to to 1. Take a right into the Shadyside Medical Building and another right down the hall to the West Wing Meeting Rooms. We will put up directional signs the morning of the meeting.
