Our Friends @ Flickr*
Since the residents started uploading photos to Flickr over
a year ago, we have met friends from all over the world. Gino
has actually made the most friends, all of whom have Rottweilers
in their lives.
Becky lives just outside of Austin, Texas, on Lake Travis.
She has three beautiful Rotties, Cassidy,
Roddy,
and Taz. Here
is their photostream and a bonus - You
Tube videos.
There's Sacha
K who lives with her handsome little boy Rolex
and his newly added little sister Miss
Lucy Loo.
Markrod59
from Montreal has lovely sweet little Emma.
What a great name for a little girl!
Sandie
(EvilMom1) has her aptly-named Beauty.
Esra
Akeroglu is from Istanbul and has a very athletic Rottie
named Face. There is also a new litter
of puppies in the house.
Nora
Onrubia lives in Rosario, Argentina, with her little
girl Panda.
Felicia
Folinazzo of Chicago recently lost her beloved Vega
to lymphoma. She didn't post for a while but now she's back with
a new friend, Pepina
Dolce.
Violet
is a survivor of Hurricane Katrina. Now she lives in Chelsea,
Michigan with her friend Karen
Smith.
Laura
in Reading, UK, recently adopted Shanti.
Her story is remarkable and very touching.
"We heard them say Shanti was getting to the end of
her alloted time at the RSPCA after which, the unmentionable
happens. She was only 8 months old. We stopped to say hi to her,
and she trotted over to us, and climbed straight into my lap,
rolled over on her back, and just fixed me with what has become
known as the Shanti stare."
We also belong to several groups who share our interests.
One of our favorites is Knoxify.
A photo tour of our fair city is available here. Some scenes
are inspired, some are mediocre, some members have their own
interesting photo streams. We're checking out Ric
Brooks (imjackhandy) at the moment.
Donald
Kershner lives on a farm in Hartford, Kentucky where
he raises Great Pyrenees puppies. He recently started a group
limited to pictures of dogs that are (or eventually will weigh)
at least 100 pounds. He was amazed to see his group grow to eight
pages of photos before it had been running 24 hours. A lot of
us love big dogs.
P J Chmiel
in St. Louis has a great set on the January, 2009, midwest ice
storm. I first came across his work when I found RAMBLE,
a documentation of his eastern US tour aboard a Vespa motor scooter.
Josh
is from North Carolina but lives in Washington DC. He documents
famous landmarks as well as scenes about town in his NCinDC
photo stream. He hasn't posted in a while and we are beginning
to be concerned. Are you out there, Josh?
Sande
Elkins lives in Loudon, Tennessee. She has a beautiful
dappled gray mare named Mouse and does some fabulous equine photography.
Kerto
lives in the UK. Her art is wonderful, filled with wildflowers
and country lanes. Simply delicious!
The American
Museum of Science and Energy, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, has
photos associated with the Manhattan Project. Many of our residents
are retired from those plants.
Matt
Heeron is an engineer for the Wisconsin & Southern
Railroad. He lives in Beloit, Wisconsin. I first saw him in an
interview with TRAINS Magazine. He grew up in a
house at Milepost 107 of the WC, thus the title of his photostream
- Milepost 107. A locomotive engineer has many wonderful
photographic opportunities.
Jason
Morrison put up some lovely photos of Frank Lloyd Wright's
Falling
Water residence in Pennsylvannia.
Judy
Baxter is a fourth grade teacher in Hahira, Georgia.
She has been shooting for many years and is one of the most prolific
posters I have seen. She now has over 27,000 images in her Old
Shoe Woman photo stream.
Lost Bob
in Maryland has this tour of the famous C&O
Canal.
Tom Larson recently retired from the US Coast Guard, bought
a sailboat and got married. He documented his last Coast Guard
cruise (to Dutch Harbor, Alaska) then he and his wife Amy began
touring the world. Follow their adventures here.
Gwilym
Owen lives in Cardiff, Wales. He posts under the name
of Aaron A. Aardvark and has some great travel sets.
Graham
Currey of Stockport, England, has a passion for photography
and his work takes him to many exotic places. He keeps a blog as well as
his Flickr photo stream.
Mary
Rae McPherson has a dream job, she is a conductor on
Amtrak's City of New Orleans. She is also a rail fan with
a great photographic talent - and a pretty smile.
Brigitta
lives in Vienna and shoots with a Nikon D40. She has a wonderful
eye and many truly lovely photos.
I met Stanley (Scottish
Twirly) a few months ago. He hails from Glasgow and puts
up some of the most wonderful images of his part of the world.
He has an interesting
philosophy as well. He can be seen occasionally sporting
his beloved kilts and no, he will not answer the traditional
question asked about them.
*This page started with a Firefox glitch. After updating to
version 3.0.5 it refused to either add or delete bookmarks. As
a temporary fix this page with its links was stored on the local
hard drive. Our webmaster Ms. Wearybottom suggested that it could
be a great thing to share, so here we are (and our Firefox has
been repaired).
