Newport, TN - The
Hilltop Baptist Church is in the
news again. The pastor and his wife are going
through what is considered by some a 'difficult' divorce. We
were monitoring the scanner Wednesday evening and heard the latest
developments.
Lifestar Air Ambulance had been dispatched
to bring the wife in to the University of Tennessee Emergency
Room following a car crash as she ran from her church. Radio
traffic indicated that the police were searching for her because
of a shooting at the church.
The
news later broke on local
TV. During the church's Wednesday evening services
Mrs. Jannet Compton is alleged to have attempted pastorcide on
her soon-to-be ex-husband. The good reverend and his
flock were unhurt as his assailant only succeeded in plugging
the pulpit.
The name of the church seemed somehow familiar
to The Home's newsroom staff and we started digging through the
files.
Cowabunga, dude, there it is.
WATE-TV and the Knoxville
News-Sentinel ran stories about this bunch back when
we lost Pope John Paul II in 2005. They displayed
this on their church sign reminding us that the Hilltop Baptists
have little, if any, respect for the Catholic Church.
But who will save us from the Baptists?
