Round Flat Container

Sometimes it's hard to find just the right size of a planter for those oddball places. In this case, I needed a low, round container that would support vinca vine as it trailed down the sides. I wanted it to cover a big rock that is at the entrance to my home. Following up on one of the many good suggestions from my colleagues at GardenWeb, I decided to check the Dollar Store.
| Below is what I started out with. Diameter is 17 inches--and all for $1. Problem is, of course, that plastic just will not do, especially for the entrance of a home. | After putting holes in the base for drainage, I decided to cover the planter with sphagnum moss. Using spray glue, I sprayed a section at a time and pressed on the moss. |

| Flip it over and do the rim, too. | The finished planter, disguised with sphagnum moss. |

| Here's the planter on the rock. I'm hoping the vines will go out in all directions and cover the rock. I will put some purple alyssum in for color. | As fast as I did this planter (5 minutes), I figured some of the moss would fall off and it did. Here, after a very intense rain, are some bare spots. They are easy to patch up with the spray can and additional sphagnum moss. |
