Chesler's on the web

Lots more since this page was last updated five years ago ... under construction Now it's been almost eight years since a major update.

Dancing Koi, by Richard Chesler Despite rumors to the contrary, I am not some grad student at NYUwho also has a site here at GeoCities, CollegePark/Lab/2382
He, in turn, is not related to Mitchell Chesler, MD, PhD, of NYU Medical, whose father is from Far Rockaway, whose family name was not always Chesler.

Drew Milson has this picture from Chesler Park on his web site I'm no relation to Bernice Chesler, "America's Bed & Breakfast Ambassador" nor to any other David Chesler in the Newton, Massachusetts area, nor to athlete David Chesler who was apparently a soccer coach with the University of Washington Huskies, and at the University of Michigan and at Fresno, nor to Professor Arthur David Chesler at Kentucky Wesleyan, nor to artist Richard Chesler who has a series of Japanese-style tattoo paintings.

I'd like to learn more about Chesler Park in Canyonlands National Park, Utah. It was apparently named for a local cowboy/rancher. I know a little about Chesler Terrace in New Jersey.

David Chessler (note spelling), CEO of Parview, Inc. has been seen on CNN hawking his product, or the awards he's received for it, which merge golfing with GPS technology. I wish I'd thought of this hack, but I didn't.

I do have a first cousin David E. Chesler in the DC suburbs of Virginia.
He is not Dave Chesler <DChes57453@aol.com > a physician in Charlottesville, Virginia, although both have fathers named Bernard.

Many of the Cheslers I run into on the net are Lithuanian; my ancestors were Russian Jews most recently living outside Bialystok. Art Chester <achester@HRL.com> however traces his ancestry to Jacob and Anna Chesler from St. Petersburg, and has another Viriginian, David Chester <DTChes@aol.com> of Alexandria for a brother. Art's cousin Jill <jillpaulchesler@sbcglobal.net> also checked in and noted the family "is from Slonim, which is near Bialystock, in Grodny", as did a neice who asked to remain anonymous. Jill's known family tree goes back to Abraham and Rebecca, who had children in 1860 and 1870.
My 3rd-great-grandfather was Betzalel Chesler. Since my grandfather, also Betzalel (Benjamin in this country) was born in 1891, I assume his great-grandfather died soon before that, and was born around 1800. Comparing notes with various branches of the family I've corresponded with on-line, all we know is Betzalel had at least one son named Moses. Moses had about 9 children. I assume Betzalel has living descendants other than through Moses, or his ancestors do -- I'd be very interested to hear from them and learn more about those ancestors.

I've never met David Chesler <chesler@nmr.mgh.harvard.edu > an NMR specialist at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

I suspect that Milka Chesler-Meriash currently of Ashkelon, Israel, and formerly of Uruguay, may be a distant relative, but all I know of her is that URL.

I am the David Chesler who has posted to Pipes Digest, MassBike, and theShaila archives as well as various places on the Usenet.

Literature

Family:

I am widowed from someone from Woburn, MA a
( professional reference librarian , MLS Simmons 1991) formerly with the Somerville Public Library.
Proud father of three children.

More Family Members

My parents are Armand (died in 2007) and Rhoda Chesler.

My brother's family

My brother, Robert, and sister-in-law are proud parents.

My second cousin once-removed, Jeremy Rosenberg, whom I found by chance while running a Deja News search.

Genealogy

This part under construction. I had hoped (2001) eventually to link in my family tree.

Geni

I've made contact with many relatives through the South American branch through Geni in 2008. Their privacy protections mean if you're a relative you can see our tree, and if you're not, you can't.

Family Tree Maker

Here is another family tree online, not mine.

JewishGen

Be sure to check the links on Jeremy Rosenberg's page.
Here are some more from JewishGen®, Inc.

Zubludowe

My Chesler ancestors were from Zubludow, outside Bialystok, coming to New York around the turn of the century.
JewishGen®, Inc. has a link off their Yizkor Book project which include Zabludow yisker-bukh [Zabludowo; in memoriam] by Shemu'el Tsesler of Buenos Aires in 1961. My grandfather visited relatives in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janiero in the years before World War I.

Please see Tilford Bartman's Zabludowo page for our ancestral home.

This page recorded about 1300 hits on Geocities, 1998 to 2006
You are recorded hit number to this page since it moved to Comcast in November 2003, and number to this site since it was moved to Geocities on August 19, 1998 according to Link Exchange FastCounter or number to this site according to WebTracker. (Click on the cheetah for more visitor statistics than you want to know.)
Discrepancies between the two site counters are probably due to differences in the way return visits with the same, or close-in-time, sessions are counted, and my use of the WebTracker feature to ignore my own visits.

From December 1996 through September 1998, more than 6000 hits have been recorded at world.std.com.
