Finally thawed my fingers

Comments are back, though now through a new server. Too bad, I'll miss Harry.

Another gem from WTF is it now?? The comic strip- Get Your War On.

And I know this is probably just a blip on the injustice radar to many people; but Tommy Chong in prison for 9 months for what basically was a "thought crime" is really scary to me. Anyone else?

Spalding Gray is missing. This has really bothered me all week. I've read everything he ever wrote and watched every film he made. I feel like I know him. He's been missing for 7 days. His family says he was depressed and fears he may have jumped off the Staten Island ferry.

...Et cetera

The pipes were frozen this morning. Ran the dryer for a while and they thawed. Lucky. Went outside, it's 5 degrees with a -20 windchill. The truck groaned and wheezed, but eventually started. Good girl. This (literally) bites!

Blogspeak says comments should be back up by the weekend in one form or another. Keep those emails coming!

Mark Morford says it way better than me about the Bushs space proposal. Beautiful. "Mars Needs Dim Republicans - Dubya dons a shiny spacesuit, dreams of spending billions to meet little green men. The nation cringes."
Once again, Your Tax Dollars at Work

According to CNN this morning:
1.5 Billion (with a "B") is being spent for a Bush administration study on how to promote "traditional marriage" in response to state laws passed in favor of gay marriage and civil unions.

5 Billion a year is proposed for Bushs new Moon/Mars space program so Cheneys Halliburton can get those lucrative Mars drilling contracts. Seriously! Check it out. Via WTF is it Now? again.

But there isnt enough money for education, healthcare, the environment, Social Security and Medicare, or even Veterans benefits. What assholes.

"Hey sista
I was just checking your blog I wanted to make sure free press was still
alive and kicking.
Love Ed
P.S Its when people stop complaining that we get worried."

Hey Brudda,
You can go ahead and start worrying now.
The only easily accessable freedom of the press is pretty much the internet- (for the moment-) that was my point about O'Neill.
The mainstream print and network media is bought and paid-for.
No doubt, information is being gathered on me as we speak under the auspices of the US Patriot Act--
What I blog, what I read, my campaign contributions to Dean and Clark, my letters to the editor, my "youthful indiscretions" (YOU know what I mean), my credit report and the results of my last PAP smear will all pop up on a computer next time I try to check in at the airport. I will then be "red tagged" and flown to my new room at the Gitmo Hilton because they cant deport me.
What the hell, I've always wanted to be an "island girl". (See below)
Love,
Sista

(Rochester, NY) 01/13/04 - The US government is going ahead with a computerized system that will collect background information on all air travelers.

Passengers will be scored with a color and number to rank their possible threat to security.

Green is an OK to board an aircraft; yellow flags mean additional questions; red means the passenger does not get on the flight.

The system will be rolled out in phases over the summer.

Comments down
Aw man!! Blogspeak is down. If you have comments email me and I guess I'll try to post them or something til Bighar can get it back up. Everyone think Viagra thoughts for Harry (or send him money).

This has nothing to do with anything except a little memory rush for me. I found it while searching for the Bush-Monkey picture. This is the first book I ever took out of the library (circa 1966). I loved it and have been an avid reader ever since. (I wonder if Amazon still has it.)
... Pictures by Sergio Leone??!!
I was thrilled yesterday after former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neills revelations about the Bush administration became public. (I showed Rob with glee. "See! See! Do you believe me now?") I anxiously looked forward to watching the news because I thought there was no way they could spin this. I was disappointed again.
I watched NBC, CNN and FOX and of course (I should have known), instead of focusing on what O'Neill SAID, they gave nasty quotes from the administration about O'Neill being a "crackpot" and "former disgruntled employee" and are going to have the justice department investigate him about documents he has in his posession.
Hopefully, ONeill knew what he was doing and has his ass covered.
...and I hope his wife doesn't work for the CIA.

Imagine
Imagine that the Bush administration had actually told the truth behind their reasons fo invading Iraq. For one thing, it never would have happened. Secondly, maybe the U.S. wouldn't be universally loathed by the rest of the world. He left out the part about defying the U.N. and NATO and the pre-existing PNAC plan and big money war contracts for their buddies- But you get the idea.
(Courtesy The Star Tribune via WTF IS IT NOW?

...Imagine that President Bush and Secretary of State Colin Powell had made a case for the invasion of Iraq along the following lines: "Saddam Hussein is an evil dictator who has long oppressed the Iraqi people and threatened Iraq's neighbors. It is U.S. policy to seek regime change in Iraq, and we propose to do that now, by military force. Saddam does not pose a risk to the United States now, and any threat he eventually may pose is years or decades away. His programs for developing weapons of mass destruction have been dormant since the end of the Gulf War. We have no evidence of links between Saddam and the terrorists of Al-Qaida or other groups capable of attacking the United States. Any invasion of Iraq is not related to the war on terrorism.

"Nevertheless, removing Saddam and creating a free, democratic Iraq is a worthy goal, though it will not come cheap. It will cost tens upon tens of billions of dollars raised from American taxpayers. International assistance will be minimal. Hundreds of fine young Americans will be killed in the process, and thousands will suffer debilitating wounds that will alter their lives forever. We call upon the American people to willingly shoulder those costs in the name of a free Iraq."

That, of course, isn't the case Bush and Powell made. The American people would have rejected it, and properly so....
