Choice Mastering employes Merging Technologies's Pyramix as its 32-bit floating point mastering/editing workstation. Pyramix's high resolution, universal file format support, and supurb sonic integrity put it in its own league of digital audio workstations.
Lucid's 24 bit 96 kHz converters are a perfect match with our analog tube gear from SPL and DBX for excellent mastering processing.
Along with using the latest high resolution digital equipment, the Otari MTR-12 1/4" analog mastering tape machine still gets plenty of use. You can't beat an analog tape machine to get that "analog tape" sound.
His recording/music career began when he applied for an intership at Philadelphia's legendary
Sonic Recording Studio. Even though he was the youngest intern on staff, Sonic's management was
impressed with his attitude and abilities and made him an assistant engineer.
Joe recorded everyone, everything, and anywhere, but knew formal training would give him a technical edge. He then went on to study music theory and the art of audio engineering at William Paterson University. At W.P.U.
Joe found mastering to be the most intriguing and captivating aspect of the recording process.
After playing guitar on two albums and an east coast tour with his band of 3 years,
recording and mastering evolved into his foremost priority. Joe left his band to become a
production assistant at Masterdisk in New York City.
After Masterdisk Joe joined the production staff at Sony Music Studios in 2001. As part of the production team, Joe maintained the highest standards in quality control for some of the year's biggest releases. Working on albums
from Rosemary Clooney to Good Charlotte and everyone in between, Joe developed his ear for sonic detail and uncompromised standards.
Choice Mastering began in the winter of 1999 editing and EQ'ing
an album for his band. Since then, Choice Mastering has continued to grow and expand, serving independent artists nationwide. Joe's musical background and years of commercial studio experience give him the edge to approach projects with the knowledge and creativity to surpass his clients' expectations.
Harry's electronics career started as a young boy, tearing into the
family's radios, record players, and TV's to find out how the darn
things worked. In later years nothing was more thrilling than to find an old TV or radio in the trash (preferably with vacuum tubes). Harry went to vocational high school for electronics (at the same
school as Joe, but about a decade earlier). After spending some time building custom vacuum tube guitar amps, Harry eventually earned a BSEET degree from NJIT.
Harry currently teaches electronics at his local community college and
maintains the electronics labs there. Harry joined Choice Mastering to
custom design Joe's leviton meter bridge in the summer of 2001. He
remains on call at Choice Mastering to help with any hardware problems
and build equipment as needed.
