Sarah J. Cummins lived to a very great age. Death came to this remarkable Oregon pioneer on August 13, 1919. As she was born September 16, 1828, she lacked one month and three days of living to age 91. The capton under the photo seems incorrect.
Death was at Chester, Montana and burial was at Weston, Oregon. A son, John E. Walden, was in charge and the funeral service was held at his residence at 2:00 PM, August 21, 1919.
The Cummins booklet is one more minor item of interest to collectors of western Americana. It is Howes C952 and Smith 2148 to 2154. There have been at least seven previous editions, at Cleveland, Ohio; Freewater and La Grande, Oregon; and Walla Walla and Touchet, Washington; plus an edition for which no place of publication is given. Most are believed to have been printed in or about the year 1914 except for the Freewater editions which probably were printed in 1919 and 1927. Despite the profusion of printings only the La Grande and the later Freewater editions seem reasonably available.
This is the twentieth book to come from Ye Galleon Press.
Of this edition 483 copies were printed.
This is copy No. 240.
