Calendar of Events for 2002-2003

Note: The tutorial video series, Understanding the Universe: An Introduction to Astronomy, continues from October through May. Showings are in the Kachina Lounge in the Social Hall from 4:00 to 5:00 PM every Thursday, except those Thursdays that fall on the same days as regular meetings, star parties, field trips and holidays.

Thursday October18 7:00 PM Navajo Room	Regular Meeting. Speaker, Prof. Michael Bradshaw, University of Arizona, Astronomy Department, “Super-Intense Gamma-Ray Bursts from Space”.
Thursday November 7 5:00 PM Catalina State Park	Annual Fall Star Party. Bring your own food and drink for a picnic dinner starting at 5:00 PM. Bring your telescopes and binoculars. If you don’t have any, there should be plenty available for your enjoyment.
Wednesday Nov. 13 Whipple Observatory Field Trip	Attendance by advanced reservation and payment only ($7.00 per person). Contact Jim Lindahl at 825-6983 or Bob Schiller at 825-4694 for reservations. Cutoff date is Friday, November 8.
Thursday November 21 7:00 PM Navajo Room	Regular Meeting. Speaker, Dr. Michael Drake, Director of the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of Arizona, “The Origin of the Moon”.
Thursday, December 19, 7:00 PM, Navajo Room	Regular Meeting. Speaker, Prof. Jay Holberg, University of Arizona, “Red Dogs, White Dwarfs and Dark Stars: A Tale of Sirius through the Ages”.
Thursday, January 16 7:00 PM Navajo Room	Regular Meeting. Fr. William Stoeger, Vatican Observatory, "Cosmology: The Origin, Development and Destiny of the Universe"...
Thursday, February 20, 7:00 PM Navajo Room	Regular Meeting. Speaker, Prof. Jonathan Lunine, Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of Arizona, “Next Generation Space Telescope and What It Can Do in the Search for Planets”. Required Club Business: Appointment of Nominating Committee Chair.
Thursday, March 6 5:00 PM Catalina State Park	Annual Star Party and Barbecue. Paid up members and their guests only. Reservations required. The barbeque starts at 5:00 and stargazing at dusk. The club will furnish hamburgers, hotdogs, condiments and cold soft drinks. If you wish hot drinks, etc., bring your own. Of course, bring your telescopes and binoculars. If you don’t have any, there should be plenty available for your enjoyment.
Thursday, March 20 7:00 PM Navajo Room	Regular Meeting. Speaker, Prof. Daniel Eisenstein, University of Arizona, Astronomy Dept., “The Sloan Digital Sky Survey” Required Club Business: Appointment of Audit Committee Chair.

Thursday, May 15, 7:00 PM Navajo Room	Regular Meeting. Speaker, Dr. Peter Wehinger, University of Arizona Astronomy Dept., “Work in Progress – MMT, LBT and Magellan”. Required Club Business: Audit Committee report and next year’s budget.
