Some Personal Activities
I am mainly retired and live with my lovely wife, Shirley, in an
"adult resort community", Sun
City Vistoso, located in Oro
Valley,
Among my personal activities within Sun City Vistoso, I teach courses at the Sun City Computer Society. In conjunction with these courses I publish notes and homework assignments. I do troubleshooting by helping club members with their computer problems. Also among my personal activities, I have held offices in the Sun City Astronomy Club and the Sun City Havurah; for these two clubs, I am the web master. Also within Sun City, I am a volunteer in the Posse, which patrols our community streets at night for safety and security.
As far as service in the greater community is concerned, I have been a judge at the Southern Arizona Regional Science and Engineering Fair (SARSEF) since 1996. Also, I have been a judge at the International Science & Engineering Fair. Shirley and I had very rewarding experiences as volunteer counselors at Camp Sunshine in Maine. In conjunction with Camp Sunshine, we held a very successful local pilot program, Camp Sunshine Arizona. Another community service I'm involved with is tutoring math at our local public schools to help students improve their grades and prepare for state tests.
A fair part of my personal time is spent on web authoring. Besides being web master for the Sun City Astronomy Club and the Sun City Havurah, I am also web master for a site for my daughter Linda, who is a professional singer and song writer. For this web master job, the pay I get is lousy, but the satisfaction is immeasurable. A lot of what I teach in my website publishing course is from experience I gained in doing Linda's site.
