This workshop is a quick treatment of basic web publishing.  Both PC and MAC users are eligible.  Students registering for the classes must satisfy certain prerequisites (click here).  The workshop will be given in 3 two-hour sessions.  The sessions are meant to introduce the student to web publishing.  Thereafter, the students are expected to have sufficient background and confidence to proceed on their own to whatever level they are comfortable with.  Because this subject requires considerable individual help during classes, enrollment is limited to a maximum of 6 students each session.

The course will center on using free software for composing web pages.  That free software is Nvu which works both for PCs and MACs.

Other free software will be used to transfer the web pages you compose on your computer to your own personal website on the Internet.  For MACs, the free FTP (File Transfer Protocol) software is FileZilla.  For PCs, the free FTP software can be FileZilla or CoreFTP Lite.

There are prerequisites because the student would quickly get lost without some pre-knowledge and experience in certain computer techniques.  To see the prerequisites for the course, click here.

The topics to be covered in the workshop are:

After each class there will be homework assignments that the students are expected to do in order to keep up with the material.
