It seems to me that churches were granted the right to tax free property, because, so they said, they contributed to the welfare of the community by feeding the hungry, visiting the sick and afflicted and helping to take care of those who could not care for themselves. It has become quite obvious that churches no longer provide those functions, at least in this community. Further, churches were given a free pass because they were outside the political process, and thus granted non-profit status. However, since fundamental Christian churches have now become simple mouthpieces for the Republican Party, they are no longer outside the political process. We regulate political parties, candidates and election. Should there not now be regulations of the part that churches play in the political process?
Should churches as non-profit organizations loose their non-profit status? Why is the IRS not investigating such activities? If they are political, should they not be treated to the same rules as other non-profits? Why do elected officials continue to kow-tow to the churches when the constitution clearly state that there shall be no religious test for political office in this country. I clearly remember George the First telling the people of this country that no atheist should be elected to office in this country. Of course he did not win re-election.
