Season 4

Episode 51- Here's Living with You, Kid

The Case

Bert is guarding a grapefruit. The company that hired Blue Moon is afraid a competitor will attempt to steal the genetically engineered fruit and Bert is there to prevent corporate espionage.

What's Really Going on Chris?

This is the only Bert and Agnes episode that Maddie and David aren't in at all, but it's also the best. Bert is lonely from spending all his days and nights guarding the fruit. He goes to the office and is relentlessly teased by MacGilicuddy. Bert brags that he and Agnes are moving in together. MacGilicuddy correctly guesses that Bert hasn't asked yet, but Bert insists he doesn't have to because he knows the answer. When Agnes comes in he does ask her. She tells him that she needs to think about it- and then he starts to worry. He dreams of he and Agnes in spoofs of "Prince of the Desert" and "Casablanca" and in both he loses her.
He goes back to the office the next day and is goaded by MacGilicuddy. He then lies and tells "the guys" that Agnes asked him and he turned her down to save face. Agnes returns to the office and tells Bert she thought about it and decided that they should live together. She happily goes to tell the rest of the office and MacGilicuddy tells Agnes what Bert said. Agnes leaves in tears, Bert follows trying to apologize. He admits he was afraid of losing her. She tells him that she understands and they decide to move in together.

Chris's Obsessive Analysis

There isn't any Dave or Maddie (we really do need a break from the last few episodes, don't we?) but this episode is great for developing the character of Bert. We see his insecurities and how much he loves Agnes.
