Episode 11- Knowing Her

The Case

Jillian Armstrong hires Blue Moon to find a locket stolen from her hotel room. She's separated from her wealthy and powerful husband, Harland- and he becomes a prime suspect. Jillian is an old girlfriend of David's and starts having 'accidents.' David begins to suspect that Harland is threatening Jillian. David meets Jillian in the park, but Harland is following them. Jillian goes to talk to Harland and ends up accidentally shooting him when they struggle. The police reprt indicates David heard one shot, but two bullets are pulled from Harland's body. Maddie begins to suspect that it wasn't an accident.

What's Really Going on Chris?

Maddie doesn't think that David is being objective about this case and can't stand that he keeps finding "reasons to stick so close" to Jillian. David accuses her of being jealous, which she denies at first but admits to at the end of the episode. David plays the wounded puppy. It turns out that he an Jillian lived together 3 years ago. She left him without a word by packing up and leaving while he was at work. She tells David the reason she left was because she'd never get the 'lifestyle' she wanted (wealthy) with David. David gets more and more involved with Jillian and at the end of the episode is planning to go on vacation with her, until they find out the truth. The last scene is David leaving a rose and note on Maddie's desk as a apology for not listening to her. In the end he crumples the note, takes the rose back and leaves.

Chris's Obsessive Analysis

This is the first episode where we see Maddie jealous. It's fun to watch. It's also the first episode where we see how David has been hurt by all the women he's really ever cared about. It's the beginning of an explanation of why David is the way he is. He obviously doesn't think straight about the women he's involved with, he's too consumed with passion. Why doesn't he leave the rose and note? David leaving it would reveal too much. Dave is much safer if Maddie really doesn't know how he feels.
