Episode 8- Money Talks... Maddie Walks
The Case
There is none.
What's Really Going on Chris?
Maddie finds out that the accountant who stole her money, Ron Sawyer, built a casino and is in Buenos Aires. She is determined to go down there and get it back. David tries to convince her that she won't get it back and that her future is in LA (with him.) She goes anyway and David is upset that she didn't ask him to go with her. She asks Sawyer for her money back and he refuses. David shows up to find out what happened. To cheer her up they go gambling to try to get some money out of Sawyer after all. Maddie doesn't want to lose any more money to Sawyer but David claims he is a "lucky streak waiting to happen." Besides he has a system, "kinda zen, kinda mystical." They win $20,000. After Sawyer calls this 'cute' Maddie decides she wants David to a game of high stakes poker with Sawyer. David is reluctant. Maddie accuses him of being afraid of Sawyer. David says that's not what he is afraid of. He asks Maddie what if he loses. She tells him that she has already lost, she can't lose again. He asks her what if he wins. She says then everything will go back to the way it was "me out of your hair, what could be better than that?" David asks if that's really what she wants and she says yes. He then agrees to play.
Sawyer calls the game with $200,000 on the table. Maddie has put up her house, her car and agency. David is unsure of whether he will win or lose and tries to convince Maddie to fold, to let go of the past, and to go back to LA where her future lies and where people care about her. She finally agrees to fold. She checks the cards when she is leaving and realizes David would've won. David misses the plane back to LA and gets stranded in Buenos Aires. He needs $350 to get home. Maddie is in La but still mad at him, she sends $340. She tells Agnes that she thought she found a guy to whom she could "show a piece of her heart" but that he "knocked her down and stepped on her aorta." What is Maddie talking about? Read on....
Chris's Obsessive Analysis
Maddie is still mourning the loss of her money and former lifestyle. She's still convinced that she'd be happier without Blue Moon (and David) in her life. David tries to get her to accept her new 'lot' in life but is unsuccessful. He is still trying to get her to realize that Blue Moon (and he) are good for her. Maddie seems appreciative that David flew down to Buenos Aires to help but stops him when he leans in for a kiss. He hestitates playing poker with Sawyer because he is in a no-win situation. If he loses, Maddie loses everything and it's partially his fault. If he wins, he loses Maddie. He decides to play anyway because Maddie says it is what she really wants. It is the first time in the series (but not the last) that he is selfless and does something for Maddie's happiness that may make him unhappy.
Some people think David threw the poker game so that Maddie would stay in his life. I don't believe that he did, he's not that much of a jerk. Sawyer had a King up and David had a pair of Queens. If Sawyer had another King he could've won. It doesn't make sense that David would selflessly play the game for Maddie, but while playing get selfish. I'm not sure what Maddie thinks. They make it clear she knows nothing about poker. So I don't think that she thinks he threw the game. She is really angry at the end of the episode and it is for more than just missing the plane. I think she was thinking David was a guy she "could show a piece of her heart." He "stepped on her aorta" by convincing her to fold when he ultimately would've won the $200,000. I think she's just pouting over losing all the money.
Memorable Moments

- David catching the cork, what an entrance!
- David and Maddie almost kissing
