Season 1

The Pilot

The Plot

A man goes out for a morning run. He puts 2 watches on. While running he is killed by a man with a mohawk haircut. The killer takes one of the watches off of the dead man before the police arrive and runs away. Meanwhile, Maddie Hayes is a very wealthy retired supermodel. She is most famous for being the Blue Moon shampoo spokesmodel. She has just returned from a cruise and finds out her accountant stole all of her money and has disappeared. Upon her lawyer's advice, she sets out to liquidate all of the money losing, tax-write off businesses that she owns, which includes City of Angels Investigations. When she arrives at City of Angels she meets the supervisor David Addison. She explains what she is doing and gets up to leave. David calls her cold and a bitch, and she slaps him. Later, David 'crashes' her date at a restaurant to try to convince Maddie to keep the business open and that they should become partners. Maddie tries to leave but David follows her to the elevator. The man with the mohawk haircut who was chased all over LA is in the elevator Dave and Maddie are about to get into. He dies with a knife in his back in front of Maddie and Dave. He puts a watch on Maddie's wrist as he falls to the ground. After being interrogated by the Police, Maddie is accosted by Entertainment Tonight who has been 'tipped' that Maddie is starting a detective agency called Blue Moon Investigations. She denies it. Dave and Maddie return to her house that night to be tied up and threatened over the watch, which Maddie gave to the Police. It turns out David switched watches on Maddie and he has the mysterious watch. David convinces Maddie that they should figure out why everyone wants this watch. They go back to the office to hide out. Maddie is surprised that David didn't try to get her to go back to 'his place'. He asks if it would've worked and concludes, "of course it would have." Maddie doesn't deny it. The next morning they start investigating the watch. They find out the watch doesn't work, and doesn't even have any parts inside but there are a series of numbers on the inside of the case. They meet with the runner's widow and find out the runner was a pilot. He inherited the watch from his father, a watchmaker and a pilot in WWII. The father told some story of smuggling diamonds into the US for a Nazi as the war ended. But the father never gave the diamonds back to the Nazi and hid them instead. After the man who tied up and threatened Dave and Maddie turns up dead in her car, Maddie decides enough is enough, she's giving the watch to the Police and demands that David give it back to her. He does and they dance a last dance together before she walks out of his life forever. He picks the watch out of her pocket without her knowing. She leaves, but returns to the agency (whose name was changed to Blue Moon) livid the next day. David tells her that he figured out that the numbers on the watch are longitude and latitude, directions from one pilot to another to the location of the diamonds. Dave and Maddie find the location, but will they find the diamonds?

Chris's Obssesive Analysis

It's obvious from the beginning that Dave and Maddie are intrigued by each other. Are they in love? Definitely not, it's way too early. But there is definitely the beginning of a 'thing' between them.
