Season 3
Episode 32- The Straight Poop
The Case
Once again, there is none.
What's Really Going on Chris?
Nothing. This episode takes place outside the "Moonlighting" universe. In the 1980's, when "Moonlighting" was originally run, it was notorious for frequent production delays. This resulted in many reruns and never delivering the 22 episodes a season promised to ABC. It was also widely reported that Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis were constantly fighting on the set. Rona Barrett, the most popular gossip columnist at the time, goes to the "Moonlighting" set to investigate why there is no new episode again. Dave and Maddie aren't speaking to anyone, but they let Rona in. She interviews Dave, Maddie, Agnes and Bert, all in character.
This episode cleverly pokes fun at itself and strings clips from past shows together while Dave and Maddie complain about each other to Rona. Bert can't and Agnes won't explain what is going on. Finally Rona gets Dave and Maddie in the outer office together. They apologize to each other, to America, promise a new episode next week (the cruel trick is that next week is a Bert and Agnes episode), and then kiss.
Chris's Obsessive Analysis
Not much to analyze here. The only interesting thing is that Agnes won't explain to Rona why she thinks Maddie and Dave fight so much. Agnes doesn't want either of them to hear her answer. I think it's because she would say that they are in love.
Memorable Moments
- Bert peeking out the studio window in the beginning
- Dave and Maddie kissing (you knew I was going to say that didn't you?)
- Bloopers run through the end credits
