Episode 21- Sleep Talkin' Guy

The Case

There really isn't one. A hooker, Toby, comes to Blue Moon and tells David that one of her 'clients' talks in his sleep about people who are scheduled to be killed by the mob. She and David make an arrangement for her to feed the info to him and he will split the reward money with her when he stops the crime from happening. This works really well. David earns a lot of money and fame, until he is the next one on the hit list.

What's Really Going on Chris?

It's Blue Moon's 1 year anniversary! David and Maddie celebrate with champagene and David asks Maddie for a raise. She agrees. David is hurt when Maddie only offers 5%, he thinks he is worth more. She claims he has never solved a case. He gets angry, of course. He then uses his new found success with Toby to prove something to Maddie. It works. Maddie admits she was wrong, just as David is preparing to leave and hide from the mob (presumably he is going 'underground' again.) When David hears Maddie's apology he realizes he can't leave and can't hide. He rushes out to confront the 'sleep talker.' Maddie follows him after reading his goodbye note. She finds out the truth about what is really going on and punches him.

Chris's Obsessive Analysis

Maddie is wrong. David has actually solved most of Blue Moon's cases to date (by my count.) She does 'misjudge' him- personally and professionally- almost constantly. He is upset by the raise, but not really about the amount. He's upset to find after 1 year he still means little to her. The only reason he pursues Toby's leads is to prove something to Maddie. He does acheive success both in status and financially. But both Maddie and David are miserable. Maddie is pleased with Blue Moon's 'new' found success but is bored and misses David. Of course she won't admit to it, even when Agnes asks her what is wrong. Agnes tries to talk to David too, but he denies feeling down, as long as Maddie says she is happy. David really thinks that things will start to 'happen' between him and Maddie when he gives her what she has been harping about for the past year- a successful business and man. David is disappointed to find that instead, they grow apart. He tells Toby that he thought, "when this part of my life started happening that the rest would too, instead the rest is falling apart." Until one of them has the courage to admit how they really feel, nothing will change.
