The Case
There isn't one.
What's Really Going on Chris?
Blue Moon was closed for vacation (this is the third season premiere.) Agnes went to Tibet, Maddie went to New York, and David went to Mexico. It's clear that Maddie missed David and she finally admits it to him. It's also clear that David missed Maddie. David finds his dad is in town. His dad has some exciting news, he's getting married and wants david to be his best man. Dave is happy for his dad until he meets the bride, Stephanie, a woman David slept with 3 years ago. According to David it was an unforgettable experience, they checked into a hotel on Tuesday and didn't leave until Thursday with a 3 week recovery period. David is very uncomfortable and embarasses his dad and Maddie at the engagement party while trying to avoid meeting his father's fiancee. The next day he is really hung over and finally admits to Maddie why he is so upset. She tells him he has to get over it and participate in the wedding. David says he can't, and Maddie tells him that he is being "inconsiderate, selfish and childish" and that she has "never been more disappointed in a human being." He shows up at Maddie's the next morning to ask her to go with him. David goes to the wedding, apologizes to his dad, punches his brother (who was the replacement best man) and then interrupts the wedding to talk to Stephanie. He tries to talk to his future stepmother about their tryst 3 years ago and gets the shock of his life, she doesn't remember him and thinks he's referring to her sordid past rather than a specific incident with him.
Chris's Obsessive Analysis
It's a wonderful thing to see Maddie admit to David she missed him. It's the first time she actually tells him anything like that. David doesn't admit that he missed her, but his quizzing her about who she met up with in New York and his gift to her shows he did.
David avoids his dad, it seems they don't get along either. Does David get along with anyone in his family? We also discover that David is actually David Addison Jr, and he does seems to really be a "chip off the old block." They are alike in their personalities.
How can Maddie say they've never been on a date? This engagement party is definitely a "real" date, their second by my count. The wedding would be their third.
It's really sweet to hear David tell Maddie that he "needs her to stay" when his dad wants to confront him about his odd behavior at the party. The sweetest moment of the episode has to be them dancing at the end (are they stuck together like velcro or what?) when Maddie tries to get David to tell her what happened and he refuses. I think she figures it out.
Memorable Moments
- The opening sequence. David sings, and there is great banter and tension between Maddie and David
- David crawling to the bathroom
- David asking Maddie to the engagement party
- Maddie and David dancing- very romantic!
