Episode 41- Take a Left at the Altar
The Case
Bryant Wilbourne hires Blue Moon to find Craig Mullins, the man who stood up his sister at the altar. He claims it is not to get revenge, but to pay him to marry his sister who is distraught. Bert and Dave find Craig Mullins only to discover that he is already married and that his real name is Craig Girard. They inform Mr Wilbourne and the next day Craig is dead with Bryant Wilbourne accused of the murder. They talk to Mrs Girard who gives them a clue which leads them to the truth.
What's Really Going on Chris?
Maddie is still gone. David is so afraid of missing a phone call from her that he has Agnes come to the office at 5am just in case. He complains that he stays home every night waiting for her to call. Bert gives David a beeper so that David will never miss any calls and that so Agnes won't have to miss any more 'sleep.'
Bert convinces David to let him help on the case, be his "backstop" so that if Maddie calls and wants him in Chicago he can leave immediately. Later David tries to convince Bert that he is over Maddie, but his bluff is called when he gets excited when his beeper goes off with the hope that it is a call from Maddie.
Back in Chicago Maddie's parents are getting suspicious. She doesn't want to do anything. She sleeps all day, watched TV all night and is evasive when they ask her about the business or her personal life. Mr Hayes also thinks that it is odd that she's been gone a week and no one from Blue Moon has called her and that she has called no one there. He thinks that she is avoiding her mother and father. David mopes about Maddie, Maddie mopes about David. She goes downstairs for a snack and finds her dad moping because she won't confide her pain to him. She tells him that it isn't pain really, but confusion.
At the end, David attempts to write Maddie a letter- after all that is not against their agreement. He has a hard time writing it. Finally he decides to write a memo updating her on the case, telling her how well things are going. The last sentence is "this is all crap, I'm miserable and want you to come home."
