Season 2

Episode 15- T'was the Episode Before Christmas

The Case

Once again, there is no client. Joseph, who is currently in the witness protection program, is murdered by the former partner who he testified against. Joseph's wife, Mary, and their son escape. Agnes returns from doing laundry to find the baby in her apartment with no sign of the mother. Agnes gets Maddie and David to help find the mother. They encounter the "Three Kings," 3 FBI agents investigating the murder in Agnes' building. Mary turns up at Blue Moon to get her baby back, but Agnes and the baby are gone. Maddie and Dave find them at Maddie's house under the gunpoint of the murdering partner. Santa Claus, and later the 'Three Kings' arrive to save the day.

What's Really Going on Chris?

Maddie comes to work to find everyone at Blue Moon busily working! They're all answering the phone "Santa's Hotline." David ran an ad and set it up with the phone company in 1 1/2 hours. Maddie is furious with David's latest crazy scheme. Later, while looking for the mother of the baby, Maddie and David have a discussion about Maddie and motherhood. David is surprised that Maddie didn't make a fuss over the baby. Maddie says that she just isn't that type of woman. David tells her that he thinks she'd make a great mom. She thanks him but adds that they'll probably never know due to her lifestyle. David then offers to 'help' her if she ever decided she wanted to have a baby, after all, that's what friends are for. She takes this the wrong way and says "that's not the kind of help I need." But he explains that he meant that he'd run the office if she wanted to stay home. He then wishes that he could have the baby for her if he could. She laughs this off as something men say because they know it will never happen.
They later argue (surprise, surprise!) David wants to give DiPesto one night of pleasure with the baby before they turn it over to authorities. Maddie thinks they should turn the baby over right away. He accuses her of someting so awful he won't even say it out loud. But she knows what he means, and denies it. (My guess is that he accuses her of not wanting DiPesto to be happy with the baby because she is unhappy and jealous.)

Chris's Obsessive Analysis

There isn't much to analyze, what you see is what you get. The maternity discussion is interesting given Maddie's future pregnancy. Maddie's gentle side is shown in this episode when she actually follows David's advice and lets Agnes have the baby for one night (Agnes 'shares' the baby with Maddie).
