Personal Coping Skills

I have found a number of web sites which have similar ideals, and goals as I describe in some sections of my web page.  Primarily, these consist of those people and organizations which are opposed to modern psychiatry and the current medications available for psychiatric purposes.  I am not completely opposed to these concepts, but certain aspects of them.  I will be adding descriptions to all of these in order to better assist in finding useful information.

I also list sites which oppose my views because I truly believe in fully informing people, and not just telling my side of the story.

Anti-Psychiatry/Anti-Medication Links

http://www.antipsychiatry.org/ - This is perhaps the BEST site for making the argument against psychiatry.  Very good stuff on almost every page.
http://www.successfulschizophrenia.com/welcome.shtml - This is perhaps the BEST site for encouragement and advice from fellow Psychiatric Survivors, and other very good resources.
http://www.talkingcure.com - This page has a number of valuable resources stating that the drug companies are pushing products which don't significantly improve the symptoms of the mentally ill, and in many cases , make things far worse.  I had a bit of trouble navigating their site, though, so I will point out a couple of sub pages I found to be helpful.
http://www.talkingcure.com/archive/special.htm - This outlines some of the different effects of conventional drugs and alternative drugs.  I particularly like the comparison between SSRI's and Ecstasy.  The table is nice, too.
http://www.talkingcure.com/archive/drugs.htm - This shows the results of several studies which unanimously agree Talk-Therapy is consistently more effective, and typically more economical than Drug-Therapy.  It shows the patients typically prefer Talk-Therapy, and it shows the Mental Health Community typically ignores these results, and prescribes medication anyway.
http://www.truehope.com/home.asp - I have not researched this site at all, but it looks promising.  They provide alternatives to the medications for psychosis and depression.
http://www.walnet.org/llf/ - The Lunatic Liberation Front.  Full of good articles, stories, and book references.
http://www.schizoaffective.org/ - A very helpful sight, though not for Schizophrenia directly.  It is very much an anti-medication site, and they have resources to help if you decide meds are not for you.  This site is larger than it looks at first.  Go to their Top-sites list to see more of this organizations links.
http://www.schizoaffective.org/cgi-bin/bptop10.cgi  This is the Top-sites list for schizoaffective.org.   Some links are not their sites, but it appears the majority are run by the same people.

Pro-Psychiatry/Pro-Medication Links

http://www.psychlaws.org/LegalResources/ - The Treatment Advocacy Center advocates the restoration of the portions of mental health system which have been cut by budgets, and legislative reform.  I disagree with much of what is said here, but they point out many interesting facts.  The link here is not to their home page, but to a resource they have which I have found to be very valuable.  It is a complete text of the statutes regarding the diagnosis and treatment of mental patients, and their rights and restrictions.
http://www.chm.bris.ac.uk/motm/psilocybin/psilocybinv.htm - This is interesting.  It shows the relationship between hallucinogenic drugs and serotonin
http://www.schizophrenia.com/ - I disagree with most of the stuff on this web site, but I am putting it on here because it is one of the better sites opposing my views.  They do have some very valid points.  But apparently, they are also chicken-shit.  I tried to reach them to confront them on a particular subject, and their email is no longer valid.  They actually advocate lying to get a person into involuntary treatment by saying they have attempted to hurt themselves or others (when they have not).  Talk about alienation of friends and family!!
http://www.seroquel.com - A typical drug info page for an atypical anti-psychotic drug.  (okay, bad pun).  I do not advocate Seroquel, or any other currently available medication for the treatment of schizophrenia.
http://www.seroquel.com/cons_asp/underschiz/underschiz.asp - This is a Seroquel's explanation of schizophrenia and the types of medications available.  It is a typical psychiatric view on the matter.  They did a good job at describing it in plain English
http://www.seroquel.com/cons_asp/glossary/glossary.asp - This is Seroquel's glossary of terminology used to describe symptoms, and other things relating to schizophrenia. Again, I included this link because it is done in plain English.
http://www.springerlink.com/app/home/main.asp?wasp=nntltklulk42m6ypfmel - This is a place to get Medical Journals for a fee.  I have not verified the value of this service.
