Jim Thorpe - 26 year-old rookie; 1912 Olympic star who played with the Giants from 1913 to 1919 as a reserve OF. Also saw action with the Reds and Braves.
Larry Doyle - popular starting 2b who played steadily for 14 seasons in the bigs with the Giants (less one year with the Cubs). Led the NL in triples in 1911 and in batting (.320) and doubles in 1915. A career .290 hitter.
Art Fletcher - starting ss who teamed with Larry Doyle for 11 of his 13 big league seasons. A .277 career hitter who could only muster a .191 WS average in 94 AB over four losing series. Managed the Phillies unsuccesfully from 1923-26 and for 11 games with the Yankes in 1929.
Tillie Shafer - utilityman in his fourth and final season with the Giants. Saw most action at 3b and played regularly hitting .287 in 508 AB.
Buck Herzog - starting 3b for the Giants in 1913, saw action with four major league teams over a 13 year carer in which he played all infield positions and some OF. A regular in the Giants four losing WS trips between 1911 and 1917. Was player/manager in Cincinnati from 1914-1916 before returning to the Giants.
Red Murray - starting OF who was another fixture for the Giants during the 1910's. Started his career with the Cardinals. Led the NL in HR in 1909 and finished 2nd in SB that year.
Mgr. John McGraw - HOF manager who led the Giants for 30 straight seasons, winning 10 pennats, three WS and putting up a career .586 average. Hit .334 over 11 playing seasons at third-base and led his league in runs scored twice.
Fred Snodgrass - starting OF with the Ginats for 9 of his 10 ML seasons. Hit .182 in three losing WS for the Giants. Cost them the 1912 WS by dropping an easy fly late in the deciding game.
Hooks Wiltse - nearing the end of his career, he compiled a 1.56 ERA in 17 games as a reliever. Earlier in his career he won 20 games twice and compiled a 139-90 record overall and a 2.47 ERA. Finished up with 20 games as a Giant in 1914 and then a season in the Federal League.
Fred Merkle - starting 1b famous for his boner as a 19 year-old rookie in a key late season game in 1908. He played steadily for 14 seasons with the Giants, Dodgers , Cubs and Yankees. Played in five WS with three clubs, none a winner.

Al Demaree - a rookie starting pitcher in 1913 (13-4 2.21) he would go on to pitch 8 seasons with four clubs and compile a 2.77 ERA.
George Burns - a rookie starting OF in 1913; would play 15 seasons with the Giants, Reds and Phillies. Had 2,077 hits and a .287 average on his career. Led the NL in runs scored and walks five times each and in SB twice.
Chief Myers - starting catcher who led the Giants in hitting with a .312 ave. One of the premier catchers of his day he was a steady hitter with a career .291 average in nine seasons. His .358 was 2nd in the NL in 1912.
Art Fromme - starting pitcher for the Cards and the Reds who came over to the Giants in 1913. In 10 season pitched 2.90 with an 80-90 record.
Art Wilson - reserve catcher he played five years for the Giants and then went to the Federal League. One of the few to return to the bigs for any period of time, he played six more years with them Pirates, Cubs and Braves.
Rube Marquard - HOF starting pitcher who played in 18 season with the Giants, Dodgers, Reds and Braves. He led the NL in wins with 26 in 1912 and in strikeouts in 1911. Had a career 201-177 record with a 3.08 ERA. Won 19 straight games in 1912 (would have been 20 but a relief win (under today's rules) was credited to Jeff Tesreau the starter who pitched well but left with the game tied.)
Christy Mathewson - one of the all-time greats who won 373 (3rd all-time) and lost 188 over 19 seasons compiling a 2.13 ERA. Led the NL in ERA for the fifth time in 1913. Also led the NL in Wins and shut-outs four times each and in strikeouts five times. Won three complete game shut-outs in the 1905 WS and compiled a career 1.05 WS ERA in 11 games. Served with Ty Cobb in WW I but was gassed in a training accident which led to his death at an early age of tuberculosis.
Grover Hartley - reserve catcher/1b who played three years for the Giants then went to the Federal League. Returned to see action in nine more season with four clubs.
Doc Crandall - a succesful reliever and sometime starter for five years with the Giants was used almost exclusively in the bullpen in 1913. Was sent two St. Louis for two games in 1913 but the uproar in New York caused the Giants to get him back. Moved to the St. Louis Federals in 1914 where he put up a 44-24 record in two years as a starter. Would return to the bigs to see limited action in 1916-17.
Jeff Tesreau - spitball pitcher who went 22-13 for the Giants in 1913. Led the leauge in ERA the year before as a rookie. Led the NL in shutouts in 1914. In eight years as a Giant, had a 115-72 record with a 2.43 ERA.
mascot - The 1914 Reach guide identifies a Giant mascot by the name of Hennessy.
