Brian Jones Memorial

Brian Jones 30th Anniversary Memorial

The Brian Jones 30th Anniversary Memorial was held in his hometown of Cheltenham, England on July 3rd 1999. My daughter and I attended the Memorial, along with my Swedish friends Hakan and Marianne, and about 200 others from all over the world. We enjoyed a great day filled with events in Brian's memory.

We spent a good deal of time getting to know each other around the gravesite, and soaking up the experience of just being there. The festivities began with a moment of silence and rememberance of Brian at around noon, followed by a sing-along of "As Tears Go By". We then listened as various guest speakers recalled their memories of Brian, and paid tribute.

Following a photograph session with members of the Press, we all headed to the Hillview Community Center in Cheltenham where a reception took place. All around the room were original paintings of Brian, and near the entrance was a continuous running video of footage compiled by the Brian Jones Fan Club. Additionally, we enjoyed good food, drinks, music, and an auction of Brian and Stones memorabilia.

It really was a great day for Stones, and especially, Brian fans. The organizers of this event, Dave Reynolds, Pat Andrews, and Richard Lovett have much to be proud of. There was something very special in the air that day that is hard to describe, but I left with the feeling that Brian Jones would have been very pleased.
