Cross-stitch and Needlepoint

Of the two, I found Cross Stitch the most enjoyable.  Needlepoint uses a net type fabric that must be covered completely in stitches and it is usually done in Wool, right?  Well, Wool threads, at least for me, never held to a true square, they always pulled out of shape.  So unless the piece is framed or sewn into a fabric frame, it looked bad.

Cross Stitch is a joy to do, and you fill in as much as you want.  It was easy to design your own pattern, find patterns, mix patterns, etc.

Princess I I have only one sample of Needlepoint for you, and I designed it myself.  It is a picture of my first Malamute.  If you don't know what you are doing, then you can't break any rules...so I just jumped in and did it.  I concentrated on the lights and darks in the picture and produced what you see here.

As I said, Cross Stitch is my favorite.  Most of my  projects were gifts and I kept few finished ones for myself.  Here are a couple I have hanging on my walls.  Since they are framed it is hard to avoid the glass.

Malamute with Eskimo Once again, in Honor of my Malamutes.  The dog portrait is from one pattern book and the little Eskimo child is from a magazine.  These were done so many years ago, I can't give you the references.

Sailing Ship Cross stitch
This piece was done for my husbands office.  Now his office is at home, so this hangs in my living room;  The ship was from one source and the quote is one from my husband.  I had to graph out the words to finish my pictures.

One of my favorite projects:  When my friends were pregnant, I have made baby announcements in cross stitch that included the usual things, but also the house where the child would live first.  These were always well received.  Because of the personal information on the samplers, I hesitate to post them here but I wanted to share the idea with you.  The new Mom would give me a picture of the house and I would graph it out to fit on the sampler.
