Join us as we experience the unique cuisine of Goa and Kerala on the West Coast of India. Goa was liberated in 1961 after over 450 years under the rule of Portugal. It is known for the diverse population representing many religions, all living together peacefully. Although a fairly new state in India, it has emerged as one of the most developed. Since ancient times, Kerala has been known as "The Land of Spice." Some of the spices grown there are cardamom, pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, curry leaf, clove, ginger, turmeric, tamarind, and vanilla. Our menu will feature the cuisine of this area of India without the heat usually expected in Indian food. Your tongue will taste all the flavors without the burn. Be prepared for a unique and thoroughly enjoyable experience.
APPETIZERS: Vegetable Pakora (fresh spinach and onion fritters) and Chicken Pakora (deep fried besan battered Chicken Tikka).
SOUP: Vegetarian Mulligatawny: Creamy, but without dairy, vegetable soup based on delicate lentils or Chicken Shorba: traditional chicken soup made with lentils subtly flavored with delicate herbs and a dash of spices.
ENTREES: (served family style) Crab Goa: Crabmeat cooked to perfection from a 125-year-old recipe. A favorite Dish from the coasts of Goa. It is cooked with a coconut. Murgh Badam Pasanda: Marinated breast of chicken sautéed in butter and simmered in a creamy almond sauce. Lamb Korma: Done in a mildly spiced coconut sauce with cardamom and curry leaves
BREAD: Kerala Paratha - a multilayered bread
DESSERT: Semiya Payasam: Thin wheat noodle pudding flavored with cardamom.

The Squirrels Nest Cafe is tucked out of the way, on the outskirts of Morrisville. The owner, Shirley, is a daughter of one of the former owners (the Harris sisters) of Yardley's Charcoal Steaks and Things. Mom is helping out her daughter and doing some of the cooking. There was a large article in the Courier Times newspaper a few months ago. They opened 5 years ago and the place is a cozy, friendly, inexpensive, neighborhood place with no frills good home cooking. They do not ordinarily serve dinner but these same items can be found on their lunch menu. They are open for breakfast and lunch.
