Falls Township Sewer Installation

08/05/08 - 08/20/09

Pinewood Drive & Pleasant Lane, Levittown,PA

Falls Township replaced all the sewers in Levittown's Pinewood section. The green area across the street from our house was the materials and equipment storage point for the (12 and still counting) months of the project. On most weekdays, we woke up to the warning beeps from the equipment backing up, noise all day long from the trucks, power shovels, front end loaders, etc. There was constant dirt in the air, and most annoying was the house shaking when the old street surfaces were ripped up. All photos were taken from our yard, inside our house, or from across the street in the storage area.

Early On, Kids Rolled Some of These Pipes Across the Street in Front of Our House.   Later, The Workers Placed the Big Concrete Sewers In Front

It Wasn't too Bad At First When They Were Working at the Other End of the Section...

... But The Equipment Would Still Come and Go All Day Long

This is Taken on the Weekend From the Equipment Area.   Our House is Across the Intersection of Pinewood Drive and Pleasant Lane

In All the Time We Lived Here, We Appreciated That No One is Across the Street, But at a Time Like This, it Was a Natural Place for Them to Use!

A Long Line of Trucks Early Some Mornings Most Activity Was on Our Corner, But There Was Plenty Going On Directly in Front Of Us

There Were Piles Of Everything: Sand, Gravel, Big Stones, and At Times, the Ripped-up Pavement

The Carrier Dumped Pipes In Front Of Our House, and the Front End Loaders Distributed Them, Here to Pleasant Lane, Our Side Street

Big Trucks Brought the Material in, and Other Trucks and the Front End Loaders Moved It Around the Section

Here Kids are Having Some Harmless Fun, After The Workers Left For the Day Of Course

Before Doing Pleasant Lane, They Work On Our Corner, Burying a Sewer Line Across Pinewood Drive

Finally, They Get To Pleasant Lane.   The Other Side Sewer Lines and Curbs Were Done First.

Most Streets in Pinewood Were in Various Stages of Completion.   The Reason They Were All Goining at the Same Time Wasn't Obvious to Us

Before: Our Sidewalk Corner, the Sewer Next To It, and the Two "Tripping Hazard" Sidewalk Blocks That We Had to Pay the Township For!

The Other Side of Pleasant Lane Was Completed First

Digging Up Our Sidewalk This Was Our Sidewalk.   The Green Space is Wider and the Street is a Little Narrower

Across Pleasant Lane, A Few Sidewalk Blocks Were Saved.   None Were Saved on Our Side! From the Other End (Tullytown) of Our Street

We Were Glad To See Them Get it Done, as It Stayed Cold for a Few Days, But Only Rain Seemed to Affect Their Progress

Finally, the Top Layer of Asphalt, The Other Side of Pleasant Lane First, ...

... and Then Our Side.   These Photos Are From Our Back Yard Looking Across Pleasant Lane

As Near as We Can Tell, They Seemed to do a Pretty Good Job

Tape Removed, Walkable! Filling in Our Green Space Smoothing It Out

Seed & Fertilizer Mixture, I Guess Two Weeks Later Two Months Later.   All Done?

Nope, We Still Have the Work Area Across the Street Because They are Doing Other Streets (and Sections).   Now We Get A Dust Shield!

All in all, the workers were businesslike and seemed to work hard, cleaning up after each days work, and appeared to do a real good job in a timely manner. We saw no pattern to the order of sewers replaced, and although our corner is finished, there is still some activity across from our house a year later. Work on neighboring Willowwood and Elderberry is well under way, even though there are still quite a few Pinewood Streets in various stages of (un)completeness.
