Grove Hill Church

This is the church where Thomas and his family were members. Although this building was built in the late 1800s, some of the materials from the old original building (dating back to the early 1800's) were used in it's construction.

Stephen Lords Grave Marthas Grave Stephen Lord's tombstone in the Grove Hill cemetery in DeSoto Parish Louisiana. Notice, the name on the stone is misspelled; the correct spelling is Stephen. This stone was probably placed by the Veteran's Administration.

My Great Great Grandfather was Stephen D. Lord who fought and died at the Battle of Mansfield, Louisiana. My Brother and I were told that he died on a hill just about 100 yards in front of the Musuem there in Mansfield. This was told to us by our Great Uncle Braxton from a very old man that Braxton knew as young man. It is said that he died as the results of being shot in the head from a "Yankee" musket.

Good Site...my Mother was Viola Lord, daughter of Claude Franklin Lord, who was a brother of Braxton, Jeb, Ruby, Mint and the others. Not sure which one he is in the family picture, but I bet one of them is him. We used to go to Family Reunions at Uncle Braxtons house near Mansfield.
