Walter Loughry Buried Thursday

Well Known Resident of County Succumbs Tuesday at Home

 

Walter Loughry, prominent resident of this county, and for the past 25 years connected with the clothing business here, succumbed Tuesday afternoon at 2:45, at his home at Lascassas. Although he had been in ill health for several month, he had been confined to his bed for only a short while. His death was not unexpected. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bessie Cannon Loughry, two children, Lida Lee and Edward; his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Ed Loughry, of Lascassas, one brother, Donald of Detroit; and one sister, Mrs. Lyda Bass, of Nashville. Mr. Loughry was born and raised near Lascassas where he lived at the time of his death, and about a quarter of a century ago became connected with the clothing business here. Since that time he has been connected with the firms of Moore, Loughry, and Co., Smith & Loughry, Lytle & Partee, the Dixie Company, Lytle Clothing Company, and with Goldstein’s where he has been employed for the past four or five years.

 

Well Known Locally

He took an active interest in all social and civic affairs of the county, being a member of the Presbyterian church, a member of the Masonic Lodge, and a charter member of the Elk’s Club, on time serving on the board of trustees. His brother, Donald, of Detroit, was notified of his death Tuesday and arrived Wednesday to be present at the final services. Final services were held Christmas morning at eleven o’clock at the Lascassas Methodist church, conducted by Rev. Dayton A. Dobbs, and Rev. C. L. Kelly. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery under the direction of Woodfin and Moore. The following served as pall-bearers: H. A. Coleman, Rex Turman, Mason Brandon, Joe Maxwell, Frank Burgdorf, Bernard Goldstein, A. B. Dement, and Henry Martin.
