Structure of the Cell

-Prokaryotic vs. Eukaryotic Cells

-Prokaryotic
     -without a nucleus
     -examples: any species of bacteria

-Eukaryotic
     -having a nucleus
-examples: ameba, dog, tree, bear, mushroom, etc.
          -anything except a bacterium

look at the "O" in prokaryotic, it looks like a cell without a nucleus!

-Plant vs. Animal Cell Identification

Characteristic

Animal Cell Plant Cell
 General Shape  round   rectangular
Position of Nucleus  cell's center  off-center, nearer to the cell wall
Outer Layer  cell membrane  cell wall
Vacuoles Number/Position  many & scattered  one & central
 Plastids  absent  present
