I have been crocheting for over
30 years.
Because I also love doll collecting, the things I love to crochet most are historical gowns and costumes for 11 1/2 inch fashion dolls (such as Barbie®).
If you'd like to try this yourself, Annie's Attic, Inc. and Paradise Publications are two companies that sell wonderful patterns for fashion doll gowns.
If you're just starting out, try Annie's first. I think those are easier for beginners.
Some examples of my work that has previously sold to collectors:
In the past, I have auctioned custom dolls on Ebay, but lately I've been selling them through my Etsy.com store Crafts By Cathy. If you love handmade items, give Etsy a try! No auctions, just straight buy and sell. What could be simpler?
If you interested in being notified when new custom dolls are on Etsy, please drop me a note and I'll add you to my mailing list.
People often ask me if I write and sell my own patterns, I have just started to do this through Craftsy.com but I do not have any doll patterns available right now. Many of the dresses I crochet are based on patterns already published and available from Annie's Attic or Paradise Publications. If the patterns are out of print, you can often find them on Ebay or Etsy.
Some useful online companies for crochet supplies are:
Over the years I've subscribed to many crochet magazines. If you'd like to contact them for subscriptions, I've posted what information I have/had on them (as of the date indicated in each box). I've made notes where some have ceased publication as far as I can tell.
This link is useful for looking up the status of magazines to see which are still published: Magazines of America.
Interested in back issues? Ebay is a great resource for
that! And I've also seen them for sale at Etsy.com. From time to time I clean out my pattern library and put old issues up on eBay, bur right now, I don't have anything for sale. If I do add some I'll mention it here.
