Our goal is to promote in our young riders a confident practical approach, a sense of responsibility, team spirit, and a better understanding of their horses. Our regular riders enjoy a wide range of extra activities throughout the year:
Our goal is to introduce our Wee Riders to their ponies. In this program the children will begin by learning how to safely handle their pony, including grooming, assist in saddling and bridling, and learning about their ponies habits (the how, what and why ponies do the things they do).
As they progress, they will ride on the lunge line working on balance and proper seat/leg position. All this is done in a fun and interesting way geared towards children of this age group by playing games such as *Around the World* and *Simon Says* while on the pony.
This one-hour session includes a tour of the barn, learning general safety around horses and ponies, and hands-on experience with grooming some of CM's equine friends. Lovin' and Groomin' is a non-riding program and can accommodate up to 20 girls per session.
This program is offered to Brownie Girl Scouts who have little or no previous experience with horses. This one hour session will teach girls the basics about horses and being around them safely. Girls will also learn about the tools used to groom horses and the equipment used to ride horses. Click Here to view all of the requirements of this Try-It.
This is a two hour horse program that includes a barn tour, hands-on practice grooming a pony, a lesson about the equipment (tack) and how it is put on the pony. Girls will also be taught the correct way to mount/ dismount from their pony and then will get a hand led pony ride with basic steering instruction. This two-hour clinic is for Junior Girl Scouts who want to earn their Horse Fan Badge. The program includes safety rules, grooming, tacking, parts of the horse, horse careers, horse care and a 15 minute riding lesson. Click Here to view the requirements for this badge.
This three-hour program will allow Junior Girl Scouts to work toward their Horse Rider Badge. Girls should have already earned their Horse Fan Badge before attending this workshop. Activities include a troop riding lesson, grooming and tacking and other barn lessons to satisfy Horse Rider requirements. Troops may continue their day at the barn doing service projects. This three-hour program will allow Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts to work toward their Horse Sense Interest Project Patch. The event includes a troop riding lesson, grooming and tacking and other barn lessons to satisfy Horse Sense requirements. Girls will need to complete additional requirements on their own to earn the patch. Troops can complete the service project requirement by spending the day helping out at the barn.
