Solar Powered Night Lights

Do something useful with your solar powered garden light.  Instead of lighting up the garden path at night for that opossium raiding the trash, bring the light into the house. Use it as a solar powered night light.

I mounted two garden lights on the roof with wire extensions of the leds brought into the house.  Just the solar cell unit with built-in batteries are on the roof. The led (Light-Emitting-Diode) that makes the light is in the house.  The solar lights are mounted on top of the swamp cooler with the wiring brought through the vent. Screw it down with a 1-1/4 "clamp or the wind will blow it down.  The following are photos of  how I did ithe project

Two Solar units mounted on cooler.

Close up of the lights.

Mount the lights on 1" PVC pipe frame.

Use 1" PVC pipe (each 12" long) and elboes to make a support for the lights.

Top view of the frame with the lights.  I got the lights at Home Depot, on sale, 4 for $16.  Hampton Bay #498 959.

Remove the led with a soldering iron and attach a pair of wires.  I used a Molex connector , but a pair of wire nuts could be used.
For more about what's inside a Garden Light view my PDF  "Garden Light Autopsy" .

Attach a twisted pair of wires to the connector and run down to your house.
The wire runs in the PVC pipe holder, then down the vent of the cooler.

The led is soldered to a short pair of wires to another connector. Shrink tubing is used to cover the solder joint (unshrunked in photo).
The led connects to the end of the wire in the house.
Molex 03-06-2023 plug (shown above), 02-0602103 pins.   Mates with Molex 03-06-1023 recpt,  02-06-1103 sockets.
You can get these at Digikey.

Or  wire nuts can be used instead of connectors.
I have the led and wire brought through the cealing vent of the cooler and use it to light up my Hallway at night.

The lights come on at night and illuminate the hallway with a soft yellow light..
